Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

Abandoned Dreams

While we are young we all dream of being something or someone. We all have visions of what our life will look like and who we will become once we become adults. Some are unrealistic like being He-Man, a superhero, or riding around our kingdom on a unicorn while our pet dragons circle above us. At some point there develops other dreams, the very realistic and attainable dreams and those dreams begin to look more like goals. Maybe as life does like it does and goes on, you find out you are color blind or don't have 20/20 vision or that baby came a few years early, the car needed to be fixed, food needed to be put on the table, a divorce happened and now you need a place to live, clothes for your kids, or perhaps you just became too scared of failing to even attempt. Whatever the case may be, those goals slip back into dreams and those dreams are put on hold. You don't abandon them at first. You say, "I will get back on track as soon as I get done with this job, I just need the money right now." or you decide to choose a major because it makes your family happy but vow as soon as you make enough money you will do what you really want to do. You will, one day, make that dream a goal again and then a reality.

That day never comes.

You keep putting it off, your interests change, you become a realist, a pessimist, a dad, a mom, and you realize those dreams just aren't going to happen and that is okay. You stop and take a look around the life that all your education, experiences, and choices have created and realize it isn't that bad. Actually, it is pretty dang good! But there are still those times you think back to your dreams of youth and you wonder what your life would've been like had you taken the path of your Abandoned Dreams.

This photo series is not about "you can do it" "go after those dreams" "it is not too late" inspirational images. This is about those Abandoned Dreams, those dreams that you know will never come to pass because many times the dreams we have abandoned shape us just as much as those dreams we pursue.

If you want to be a part of this amazing series please get in touch with me through this page and in the dropdown menu of event type choose Abandoned Dreams Project. I need models, designers, makeup artists, hair stylist, locations, really you name it and I'll find a way to let you help. There will be no pay but what I do offer is fun times, great images, and a chance to maybe, just maybe for an instant let you live that dream and be part of an amazing project.

Thank you for reading. Keep dreaming and don't be afraid to abandon a few. I look forward to meeting and working with you,

Shawn
